The BMW M550d xDrive, one of the first offering in BMW's new M Performance vehicle lineup is making its world premiere at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, together with the X6 M50d. Both vehicles, together with the F11 touring M550d and X5 M50d, will be launched into the market in just a few weeks. The M550d sedan has been receiving rave reviews from the automotive press who have tested the vehicle.

The M550d sedan and touring feature the following specs:

- Six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology, aluminium crankcase, three turbochargers (high-pressure, with variable turbine geometry), common-rail direct injection with piezo injectors, maximum injection pressure: 2,200 bar.
- Displacement: 2,993 cc,
- Output: 280 kW/381 hp at 4,000 – 4,400 rpm,
- Max. torque: 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) at 2,000 – 3 000 rpm

BMW M550d xDrive Sedan:
Acceleration [0 – 100 km/h (62 mph)]: 4.7 seconds,
top speed: 250 km/h (155 mph),
average fuel consumption: 6.3 litres/100 kilometres (44.8 mpg imp),
CO2 emissions: 165 g/km, exhaust standard: EU6.

BMW M550d xDrive Touring:
Acceleration [0 – 100 km/h (62 mph)]: 4.9 seconds,
top speed: 250 km/h (155 mph),
average fuel consumption: 6.4 litres/100 kilometres (44.1 mpg imp),
CO2 emissions: 169 g/km, exhaust standard: EU6.

Neither the M550d sedan nor touring will be available in North America, but look for future gasoline M Performance models to make it to North America.

I owned an X5d and loved it..Torque monster..

I'd still have it today if I could have afforded to keep it and my M3...If I don't purchase my M3 after lease this 550d xdrive would be my car of choice.

It's a damn shame they wouldn't offer it over here in NA

it's a shame they don't offer it in the US.
BMW needs to get over this stigma: AMERICAN buyers won't purchase this.

Problem is, even with the diesels they do offer here, the engines are different than those sold in Europe and the rest of the world. Our diesel has been mandated to be cleaner than it was, but still doens't meet the same specs as that available in Europe (too much sulphur).

I waited over a year to see if they'd offer the GT with a diesel here before biting the bullet and getting the gasoline engined one. For the driving I do, I would have much preferred the diesel.

I thought my E90 M3 was the ultimate commute car, but its not - this is.
I would buy this in a heartbeat (if it were available in Canada).
