Lemoned my F10 due to vibration defect, dare I order a new one?
So after 5 months of countless visits to the dealer with my 530d M Sport they finally agreed to do a buy back. I have had the dreaded vibration between 100-120 km/h and the dealer tried everything to no avail.
Love the car as a whole but the vibration was obviously not acceptable. I'm considering ordering a new f10 but want to be sure that the new one doesn't have the vibration. My dealer says that BMW strongly recommends selecting the standard chassis instead of sport chassis (in the m sport pack), to be sure that the new one doesn't vibrate. Does anyone have any input on this? Do i dare to order again? I want DDC on the new car too! Is there anybody here with a 2013 F10 that vibrates? Thanks in advance! |

Well my 530d msport ( with passive msport suspension) doesnlt vibrate so I reckon you'd be ok. Just very unlucky with car in the first place and you dealer's inability to fix it.
Mine is rhd by the way |

And, as raleedy said, the probability that you will have this problem again is very, very low. ![]() I am curious though as to how much did you get back for lemoning the car. Are you entitled to the full value of the car or a depreciated value depending on how long you had it? |

I'll be meeting with my salesman during the coming week and I'm pretty sure they will want to give me a depreciated value. I, of course, want a full refund.. We'll see where we end up
They don't call them stealerships for no reason... |

Isnt BMW paying you for the buyback, not the dealer. Usually buyback means a full refund, no depreciation. In fact, I would ask BMW for some sort of compensation for all your trouble and the time you spend at the dealer.

My first F10 was a 550i (non msport) and took delivery on its release June 2010.
Dealer bought it back after the "pulling to the right" issue couldnt be resolved. Order a new 550i with msport. Took delivery April 2011. Best car I have owned to date. I have tuned the engine, suspension and exhaust. I run it hard anyday I can and track it at Nurburgring. Could not image not having it.

I had exactly the same problem with my 528i F10. After 7 months of experimenting they could not find a fix.
My car also had the sport suspension option. I drove 3 others that also had the same problems at around 100 - 110 klms. The local dealers were exceptional and gave me above market value for the car. Such a shame as I just loved it other than that. |

I had the same vibration issue with my 2011 520d with EDC suspension. The problem was my wheels/tires. I now have 20" BBS CH-R with Michelin PSS and i have no more vibrations.
The car came with 18" msport wheels and continental runflat tires. The vibration was felt in the seatbacks at around 110-120 km/h.

My built in January 2012 no vibration. I have adaptive drive suspension and can recommend it.

I have now ordered a new 530d F10 M-Sport with DDC. Got a buy back deal that was too good to resist. Part of the deal is that I get to test drive the new car before agreeing to purchase it. Estimated delivery 2013 week 1... So the wait begins, again..

My July 2011 build F11 535i is on the M-sport (Style 350M) 18" wheels, fitted with Continental Sport Contact 3 SSR. No steering/wheel vibrations whatsoever. It is fitted with Adaptive Drive, no difference in either mode. Have BMW actually found what is the issue? Or does it still seem to appear at random and/or in odd combinations of specification? I've read thousands of posts on this issue, 3 and 5 series, but there doesn't appear a definitive answer. HighlandPete |

1. a cracked rim. Dealer confirmed he felt the vibrations with the cracked rim. With the new rim they didn't feel it anymore. To me nothing has changed at all... 2. they re-did all 4 wheel alignments (to also counter a pull-to-the-right issue). Again, vibration still the same... 3. Then they suspected the (summer) tires. Replaced them with winter tires (scheduled replacement) last Tuesday -> same vibrations. 4. the dealer double checked the wheel balancing (not sure this it the right term), and said they performed a 'hot balancing' (performed on hot tires). Again, to me nothing has changed, vibration still the same ![]() update: 5. just took the lead mechanic for a drive, and finally he experienced the vibrations for a longer period, not just once, and confirmed these vibrations are unacceptable. He measured the temp of the wheel hubs, all normal. He'll follow up with BMW. This is the first ray of light in a long time about this... update: 6. dealer found another rim that wasn't completely round. Replaced with new one -> now only a slight vibration left, I'm afraid I'm now down to the slight vibrations mentioned in other posts... Last edited by BDV; 11-29-2012 at 11:26 AM. |

the issue is apparently related to bad runout tolerances on the hub (i.e. it's not perfectly round). More info here: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showth...682580&page=14
I'd suspect the issues are more widespread than just the 3 series.

I had a 2011 BMW 535i xdrive built Jan 2011 that had the irritating vibration between 70-80 mph felt in the seats and I had replaced all 4 rims, replaced tires 4x to diiferent brands with improvement in vibration but it never went away. IT was the worst 1 year of my life with a car ever! I sold it off and jumped ship the new 2013 Lexus GS350 F-Sport sedan and I am very happy now.
