HID Fog lights

Hey Guys,

Considering doing an HID fog light upgrade. I've done a few in the past on the e90/e92 and I'm pretty sure I'll need an error canceler since I won't be using canbus ballasts. Here's the thing, I've gotten away with just attaching resisters in the past but I'm not 100% sure if it will work on the f10. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for resisters and/or cancelers (decoders)?

If you choose not to share your secrets with the world feel free to pm me lol

Some folks in bimmerfest and I are using DDM Tuning error code eliminator and we have no issues so far. Just stick with 35w bulb instead of 55w which has lots of issues such as flicking.

I went with Morimoto 35W Can bus bit. No issues or flickering. I've used DDM Tuning before and for the price, its no bad at all. But you do get the flickering issue...
As you can see, the road is definitely WELL LIT!

That's exactly where I got mine. Easy DIY as well. you just need electrical tape, zip ties, scissors. takes about 1 hour for the install.

Bobby_Drake, what color did you end up getting (5k or 4.3k) and how far off is the Morimoto Ballast Vs the stock hid's and the halos?

Stoof stop by whenever I have a few kits in 5k. I also have resisters and old error cancelers haven't had a chance to try them out yet.

I ended up getting 5000K. It's a bit more white than the stock HIDs but it matches the angel eyes perfectly, especially when you drive with just the fogs and angel eyes. If you want the stock HID look, 4300K is the best. It looks good either way and I am happy with the 5000K.

Yea im leaning toward the 5k as well. My Biggest issue is i love when all the lights match, so it would reaaaaaaally irk me if the difference is noticeable.
If you were forced to estimate how far off would it be? Also would you have any photos that illustrate the difference between the Morimoto and the stock hids?

The pictures doesn't illustrate the color difference, as you can see from the pics I posted. If you want everything to match as close to stock as possible, go with 4300K. You may also want to call "theretrofitsource.com" and ask them how close it is to stock.

I've tried the DDM Tuning, but had the flickering. If I buy the bulbs that you have, do I need error canceling parts just like I did with the DDM Tuning bulbs?

If it flickered it could be the ballast or the bulbs. You can try either adding a resister or swamping the ballast, and or bulb. The Morimoto Ballasts are available at www.theretrofitsource.com.

The bulbs you can get are either 4300k or 5000k
5000K would be similiar to the Angel's or Drl's. 4300k on the other hand would be a veyr match to the stock hids.

F10HRE,

I got the 5000K bulb. I've had no flickering and no problem so far. Installation is real simple as well. easy DIY. Don't waste $100 or whatever they charge for installation.

Trust me it's not worth it to swap the stock hids... Biggest Pain in the ass EVER! Both headlights need to come out for that...

Yea there's a cover with ~8 hex screws you need to remove. Once that cover is out you will need to invert your wrists to get to the bulbs. If your comfortable with that, by all means enjoy lmao
