what parts are made in house by bmw?

I'm just curious as to what parts are actually made by bmw and which are outsourced?

I'd say almost everything, except engine and chassis. Can't make money making & using in-house parts. BMW prolly designs lot of electronic control modules, but they'd be just outsourced and get delivered. little things like actuators, motors, wires are all OEM.

The engines are definitely made by BMW. Seats and instrument panels definitely are fabricated by others.

I saw a show on tv that showed how bmw x3's were made. I remember they used a outsorced company whos factory was a few miles from the BMW plant to make all the leather seats. It seemed like everything else was made in house.

I dont think BMW make many of the parts. As the others have said the engine and chassis is probably built by BMW. I'm pretty sure even the electronics are manufactured by suppliers as this is what most major manufacturers do. My wife works for Jaguar Land Rover and she tells me most of the parts are manufactured and supplied by others. There are loads of big suppliers Valeo, Bosch, Prodrive, TRW etc who design and manufacture systems for most of the major automotive firms.

I would say BMW makes the engine and chassis, thats it, I know the whole dash baord is made by a vendor off site and the transmission is from another supplier as well.

I doubt BMW makes the entire engine in-house, I would say only the engine block and chassis are made in-house
