Lightbulb Some LCI F10 5 Series Details Emerge in VINs - 550i Gets N63Tu Engine, 535d for US

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I've done some damage on the F30/F32 side, now it's time for F10. This is by no means exhaustive, I just happened to hit on a productive VIN range, but there's no guarantee all new F10s are in that range.

The first VIN below shows the LCI 550i touring with uprated N63Tu 445-bhp/480-lb.-ft engine (just as the 650i Gran Coupe and 5GT already received last year), good for +45hp / +30 lb-ft torque over the N63 engine.

The second VIN shows the 535d coming to US.

The 5 Series LCI update is due this Summer/Fall. See all F10 LCI news/updates @ http://www.bimmerpost.com/?s=f10+lci

BMW 5 LCI SERIES MODELS LIST (by VIN search).
* Note: the list may not be comprehensive or up-to-date and info has not been verified by BMW.

And finally, this VIN shows LCI 535i as maintaining N55 engine with same power rating.

so 550i gets hp boost(GT already has it?), 535d coming to US(not that big of a surprise) and LED headlights for LCI(already confirmed on camo test cars). I guess LED fog is interesting...

Can you pull up what engine and power rating is going to be in the LCI 535? rumor has it that it will have a bump in HP or a new N55 replacement engine but after reading your post on the F30 board that doesn't seem likely now. Maybe just a software change to bump up the boost to the N55TU levels which isn't much.

Why is the prod date 10/16/2012 for a LCI? I'm assuming this is one of their test mules all camo'ed up. How do we know?

I heard the LCI will go into production around July 2013

So the 535d U.S. spec only has 260 hp? 190kw = 258.33 hp
I thought that the N57 engine was rated at 299 hp and 442 lb-ft torque

Looks like BMW is bumping model designations for US compared to EU:

EU 320d becomes US 328d.
EU 530d becomes US 535d.

Can you see if the US spec 550i will get the new N63Tu engine?

535d with the N57T + full LED headlights sounds very appealing.

I take it the 535ih is the Active Hybrid? If so why are we getting one of those in a manual, but not in a diesel? I would imagine a diesel buyer would be more likely to buy a stick than a hybrid buyer.

Yes, the "h" designation is for hybrid. It remains to be seen if an actual manual transmission is made available. That may simply be a placeholder, in fact the actual car could be a plug-in, instead of a manual transmission.

The way the ActiveHybrids are engineered with the ECU, a manual transmission would seemingly be difficult to integrate.

Having preferred to drive a stick most of my life, I must say after having the 335d with the 6-speed auto that I don't think I would want that engine in the manual tranny. It's just so different than the gasoline engine. The AT does just fine. But who knows what it would feel like.

My 2011 335d is rated at 265hp and 425 ft/lbs. I believe that's at the crank, not at the wheel.

Fair enough, but my point was that between someone buying a diesel or someone buying a hybrid I would think the diesel person would be more likely to buy a manual. But then again SamS could be right and its just a place holder.

Sad stuff... they discontinued the 550 stick 6 speed!

Yikes... so in theory... 2013 is the last year for the 6 speed in the 550i, except for M5? And 535i?
