Too much oil?

I went to the dealer today for my first service - engine oil, filter, microfilter. I also mentioned that my front brake pads sensor seems fixed at 60,000 km remaining since day one. I just picked up the car and:

- The front brake pads reading still says 60,000 km remaining (guess I should have asked what they did about it if anything)
- I got home (5 km drive) and the engine oil gauge now says too much oil (warm engine, level surface)

I did check the oil level when I picked up the car and it was right at the max (green) level.

The question is whether I should trust the reading at the dealership (cold engine, level surface - OK), or the one after driving for a bit (warm engine, level service - NOK)?

If it's indeed too much - can I easily pump some away from the top or do I have to take it to the dealership again Thanks.

I believe the oil level check as prescribed in your Owners Manual would be to check when the car is on a level surface when engine warmed up. So it appears that the dealer screwed up. Take it back to them to get it corrected

If its giving you too much oil warning do not drive the car. Its not uncommon for the turbo to blow it seals if there is too much oil in the sump, it over pressurises the oil system and the turbo seals are one of the weakest points. The dealer should come and sort the car out afterall its their problem. If the turbo does blow its seals its really expensive as it will ruin the turbo and the dpf on the car and has the potential for the car to run on (using the oil as fuel) even with the ignition off.

I took the car in and apparently they drained 1l (!) of extra oil. The service manager told me that the supervisor was "chastising left and right so that they don't do it again"... Good thing I went, 1l extra is just. wow. I drove it for a total of 10 km and didn't feel anything strange, nor got any other warning apart from the one in iDrive's electronic level monitor. One thing that I did notice though was that when I had parked yesterday (oil wasn't even at operating temperature), there was a distinct ticking sound coming from the engine, kind of like something was boiling (guess what).

Lesson learnt - always check oil level after a visit to the dealer...
