How do I get my iPhone 5 to play music?

I have it sync'd for the phone but I can't get music through the bluetooth. I also plugged it in to the USB in the center storage but it would reconize it. It does charge though.

Do you have bluetooth audio checked off in the iDrive?

Under Bluetooth > Configure Bluetooth you will see a list of items like "Bluetooth Audio" "Office" "Telephone" & "Additional Telephone"

Where is "Bluetooth". Settings? Sorry I am really having a hard time finding this people reference to. It said that I had the latest version but I wonder if my 2011 doesn't have what the new ones have.

You can also adjust it from Bluetooth device in audio menu. Click it then press options while your phone is highlighted. Then check block for audio. Now viola just click Bluetooth audio and it should work.

Hope you can follow what I'm saying.

I'm sorry I seem slow on this but I can't find what you guys are talking about. Maybe I need an update but my menu only has "CD/multimedia, radio, tele, nav, contacts, connectedDrive, vehicle info, settings". I went through each of those and there are no Bluetooth options. I did read that I need a y connection to use my iPhone 5 for music or messages.

Went by the dealer. They said I don't have some tech or app option to use the Bluetooth for anything but the phone. They also said they don't have a y cable for the iPhone 5. Rats. I am so jealous of you that do.

It doesn't need app or tech (I guess they meant extended Bluetooth option). If you can sync your phone to call it can be used for music playback as well. go to CD/Media> External devices, and select your phone beside the Bluetooth sign. If your phone name doesn't have the music sign beside it go to options and check the audio box under Blootooth configure.

Good Luck

Mind does not look like this. When I go to sync my phone it does not give me a audio option. Was this a 2012 upgrade?

-Do you have this option?
Mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth interface (optional equipment, code 644)

-What is the multimedia software version on yours? try this update, it might solve the problem:

You tried the update for ConnectDrive on the car?
That is different.
Go to the link, enter your vin and save the file that it gives you to a flash memory. If you have glovebox USB use that, if not use the center armrest box USB and update the software. via main menue> settings> software updates

It said:

To perform the software update via USB stick, you will require the USB audio interface (included in optional equipment codes SA 6FL, SA 6NH, SA 6NK, SA 6NL, SA 6NS, SA 6AE, SA 6NR) as well as the Control Display and iDrive. This offer is only available for selected vehicles manufactured after March 2010. Your vehicle can be updated provided that you have the ‘Software update’ option on your ‘Settings’ menu in the Control Display.

And it doesn't give me anything to download.

When I get back to the car I will check to see if it has "Software Update" in the "Settings" menu. Thanks for your help Zaman. So frustrating that you buy this level of car and the dealer doesn't have a specialist on iDrive to resolve this.

Sorry to hear that. and you are right most of the dealers are not helpful and that is the reason we are here in these forums.

BTW, the bluetooth audio is not that useful either.
1- It sucks the iPhone's battery.
2- It is not flexible in selecting songs and playlists at all and you have to change those things from the phone itself.

So no worries if you don't have it.

Hi guys, would like to get some help on how to get my iphone5 to play music in iDrive. After I plug in my iphone5 into the USB port and then choose the USB device name, then the message shows up (see the picture attached). It seems the apple lighting cable won't connect to iDrive, but I knew some ppl is able to connect their iphone5 to the iDrive without any problem.

Please let me know if you knew the solution on how to make it work. Many thanks

There's no Combox enabled in your car. Combox allows the use of the Apple Lightning USB cable directly with the iDrive.

Use iPhone 5 with OEM Y cable and Lightning-to-30 pin adapter. Search for details if you do not understand.

Also,
