2014 n63tu edition BMS stage 1 DYNO #s

**** POST #27 DYNO RUN VIDEO *****

Ok so,

Keep in mind my car does have catless downpipes.

the 2014 Car made 385 hp with 467 tq
the 2013 car made 392 hp with 444 tq

My car the 2014 has catless downpipes. the 2013 was stock.
the weather was 15-20degrees hotter when the 2014 was dynoed.

2014 with BMS stage 1 made: 452 hp 514 tq
2013 with BMS stage 1 made 425 hp 477 tq

2013 with BMS stage 2 made: 448hp 517tq

there is no stage 2 for the 2014 yet.

really not sure what to think about any of this yet. except the fact that I think BMW may of just underrated the 2013 pretty heavily while rating the 2014 correctly.

Terry did tell me that the 2014 you can add way more boost and it took it easily vs the 2013.

on the 2nd dyno sheet the last dyno that ends with AGR was too agressive and he couldnt actually use it, car was dropping to much timing during the run. So it really doesnt mean anything.

Ive attached both:

2014

2013

Nice gains - did the 2013 car have catless dps as well? Tough to compare the two numbers if not.

The car was actually a 2011 not a 2013 and there are few drivetrain differences that may make a difference. Regardless, BMS is definitely winning the tuning battle on the N63/N63TU engine. 70 HP+ and almost 100 Max Torque for Stage 2? Impressive results for $500.

I am thinking Combat, you may have gained some bottom end torque with the downpipes but lost the HP because of them. Badblack got a bit slower on his quarter mile and lost some trap after the install of catted dps. We need to get more air into the engine like the M6! SOMEONE NEEDS TO DEVELOP AIR FILTERS!

well actually my friend took his stock 2014 and made more HP then me stock and more hp then me with the tune.

But if you look at the graph you will see something happens at 4500rpms with my car.. major drop. Same with boost. drops at 4500rpms.
my friend used my bms tune on his car, as well, both stock and with tune. My car at 4500 rpms starts loosing boost and power.

Not sure what the deal is. Ill post a dyno graph of it.

Only thing left for you to do now is check for any boost leaks that could have been caused from the DP install or swap back in the stock DP's and redyno.

Your friends 2014 550 seems to be making the power that it should be considering the engine is rated at 445hp/480tq stock. Seems like bmw underrated this TU engine too.

Terry's 2011 550 seems to dyno very high. Didn't Badblack's car dyne around 350ish whp when he was stock?

I need to get my hands on the updated S1 for my TU motor so I could dyno it out here in this freezing weather.

Badblacks is awd like mine. Dyno numbers will be a lot different between rwd and awd every time.

Wow, great stuff man!

BB car did dyno less, but it is an XI so more drivetrain loss, figure another 3-5%, maybe even 6%.

So if I am reading it right your car on S1, did make more HP but less torque than Terry's S2 car, except his didn't have downpipes. Color me impressed. And your friends 2014 with S1 made 463/506 vs 448/517 on the S2 2011. I'd say that's net even.

And if Terry tweaks and releases that aggressive map for those of us running 93/94 octane, it'll be more than the 2014 S1.

Good news is, once Terry gets S2 for the 2014tu up and running, my guess is, 490rwhp and 550rwtrq

my car vs terrys 2011 stock im makin way more power till 4500 rpms

my friends stock 2014 makes more power stock then terrys thru out the entire curve with no drop.

Not sure what the deal is with my car and the downpipes. maybe i have a leak.
Ill put up boost graph.

You are all incorrect I dynoed on a mustang dyno that's about 10% less reading than dyno jet if not more. When I installed the catted DP's I did lose power but after 600 miles the car adopted and I gained almost a full mile in trap speed.. Look at my sig and I also got faster 1/4 time.

You dyno'd on a mustang dyno and are xi both so far from apples to apples. Anyhow - dyno runs are relatively meaningless when comparing on diff dynos on diff days in diff areas.

As for your car Combat losing hp after 4500 that is quite weird. I would think a boost leak could rear its head below that rpm but who knows. Maybe it's a minor boost leak compounded by the ecu recognizing that and scaling back timing. Id have the downpipes checked at both ends. Terry can prob help you figure it out. He is the man.

Also, you should get your friend to run his 2014 s1 with race gas with boost turned up even more :-)

Good advice scott.

I figure if there was something wrong with the car itself, it wouldnt be making all that power then all of a sudden boost spike down along with power at around 5k rpms.
Someething is causeing it, I spoke to black on the phone yesterday, he suggest it may be the stock exhaust and secondary cats. maybe the downpipes are spooling turbos really fast and hitting a huge wall with secandary cats and exhaust and is causing an issue.

1st thing i will look into is the dps and get that squared away, after I will put on exhaust and hope that helps.

The loss of power is the boost drop. Correct me if im wrong. going from 19psi to 11.

Even stock going from 14 to 9. So there is something up

There are no secondary cats on the 550i, both engines includes as far as I understand it.

The only cats are the primary cats, which are inside the downpipes which you removed. After that in the exhaust, are 2 resonators, which are not cats, followed by a center muffler, again no cats, followed by rear mufflers.

Boost leak. If I were you I would re-install the down pipes. A friend of mine had a similar issue and spent way to many sleepless nights trying to figure it out. Just reinstall. I bet there are an additional 30whp hidden in that badboy.

evolution thinks turbos are spooling to fast creating the computer to think there is somethign wrong and dumping it in the waste gate, this theory actually makes alot of sense if you look at my boost log compared to the 2011's tuned and untuned same thing.
