Tire Size Question

Newbie to the forum and have a question. I purchased and installed the M5 rep wheels for my 2011 550i M Sport......20x9 in the front and 20x10.5 rear. For tires, I went with 255/35/20 in front and 285/30/20 in rear. I went with this setup after looking at post on the forum. I have 2 questions that maybe i should have asked earlier before getting the wheels...1) Why different sizes in the front and rear....meaning 35's on front 30's on rear. 2) can i run 30's on the front too. Don't know if its just me but i can look and tell that the fronts are bigger than the rears...thoughts?? Just asking...first wheel purchase as well

Where did you get the wheels? Ebay? I am going to be ordering the same when my car arrives.

Not sure on the wheels but my guess is it has to maintain the same circumference as the 19" wheels that were original on the car.

The 35 and 30 are the tire profile. The number is the tire sidewall height in per cent of the width.
Since the rears are wider, the percentage of the width needs to be smaller to get the same tire wall height.
But 295/30/20 in the rear would match the fronts better.

I ran across them here in Dallas at Discount Tire when another 550i owner was getting new wheels for his car I asked him if wanted to sell the wheels and he agreed.

Thanks Remmib.....I will check on the 295/30/20...like i said I can definitely see that the 285/30/20's are not the same tire height as the 255/35/20's in the front.

I would go 245/35 & 285/30 combo to be level in height

if you are getting 20x9 fronts, I would suggest 255/30/20 as 245/30/20 will be slightly stretched, and as you have a rear wheel drive it would be not a problem and 255 will protect your rim better from scratches and gashes!! as you will have a some tire lip. I have 245/30/20 on my 20x9 rims, wish I had gone or 255/30/20s, but I drive an x drive , but even in my case 255 would have been fine as the overall height difference is only ~1% front to rear (285/30/20).

you're most defiantly not going to see/notice a difference between 285/30/20 and 295/30/20.
