1600 miles and arghhhhhhh.......
Bloody puncture!
Coming home tonight, TPMS goes off. N/S/R has a proxy electrical cable tack thingy, mid centre section. Bridgestone Turanza ER300 275/35/19 96Y. Looking at about £300 if I can't get it repaired

Nah, never go for it, which is strange as I got one on the E90 within the first couple of months of owning that. Had that repaired though.
Funny, can't recall ever having a puncture before having BMW's though, must have just been lucky! Only bought the GAP insurance last week and almost added it

That is a result, good news. I was'nt aware run flats were repairable? it is same rules as non run flats, ie not in sidewall etc?

Big players, Kwik Fit, Halfords etc. won't do it, citing safety blah, blah when in essence it is more likely a corporate strategy to sell you a new tyre.
There is a risk of hidden damage if it's been run totally flat. Only consideration with a run flat in addition to a normal tyre is how fast / what distance its been run flat, as in 0 pressure, rather than a bit low. Side walls get damaged by heat build up which can't be easily checked for in run flats. Other than that they can be repaired as long as damage falls within normal safety regs, as you say, not sidewall etc Worth keeping an electric pump in the boot in case it happens so you can keep the pressure up. |

I have seen a Bridgestone posting on checking run flats for repair, as I had Kwick Fit tell me they were non-repairable too.
The guidance as you have stated was around how low the pressure in the tyre was and the distance/speed the car was driven at. However if you breech these safe parameters the inside of the tyre starts to develop tiny balls of rubber as the tyre overheats. Therefore it is relatively simple to identify if the tyre is repairable or not |
