Trust me, it's a special car. As mine has a private plate, people still come up to me in the street and ask if it is a new model. Few people apart from petrolheads believe it is a 25 year old design. It's a very exotic machine for the £20k or so a decent one will set you back these days.
Furthermore, apart from those doors, the very advanced (for the time) bodywork materials and advanced integrated aerodynamics, I believe BMW was also awarded a large number of patents on the Z1, including for HID headlamps and integral roll-over protection. It makes a Z3 look prehistoric.
