The BMW press release on the Sept changes indicated it was hardware specific and that prior cars could not be updated. At the end of the day I am sure someone will figure out how to retrofit the hardware. BMW said for a while that the Nav system was not retrofittable on the E60, but it was eventually done. The only real impediment is the cost...
