It's rated at 10 hrs in the books. Took me a bit of time when I did it on an e53 X5. Had to disconnect all the suspension components and remove the front axles (awd) while supporting the engine from above. Then remove the front subframe/cradle to get the op out. I've seen quotes from 1600-1800. So you're quote is about inline considering inflation. Sucks because it's probably less than $100 in parts.
