This is obviously a patent for a technical solution (grille illumination, according to the caption), not a 3D design shape patent, and as such, the grille depicted in the drawing for illustrating given solution doesn't have to belong to an actual production model, this grille here may as well have been picked randomly out of BMW's discarded sketch bin.
