The trick is to wait for their frequent sales....if a module has been out for over a year, you often see 50% off. Recently released such as the Hind or Apache will get 30% off.
Also, when they announce a new module, it will go on sale as "Early Access" before it is actually released and you get a good discount if you pre-purchase.
On the day it is released, it will still be considered Early Access, meaning not all of the features are enabled quite yet but you still get a discount, but slightly less than if you had bought it pre-release.
DSC is free to play, but you don't get much of anything with the free download. Start by buying the Flaming Cliffs base during a sale - that comes with a lot of aircraft to start. Then, add modules at your own pace during subsequent sales.
