You cannot use the Smartphone and the other USB port at the same time. When you plug a phone into the cradle, the other USB port is disabled until you take the phone out of the cradle. You can only listen to one at a time anyway. Just leave the iPod plugged into the USB port. When you pull out the phone, the port will be active again. I leave a USB flash drive plugged into the USB port and play media directly off the flash drive.

I haven't tried the iPod in the cradle. It might not physically fit. It will work in the USB port though.

The iPhone will work (as a phone) over Bluetooth. You can't play music in the car over Bluetooth.
