what is more likely (based only on the fact that I've seen it happen) is that if the injectors had failed in the open position, the fuel could washdown the cylinder walls and this could in turn cause scoring on the walls. leading to burning oil and loss of compression.

Yeah never heard of a valve stem issue on n55. It seems like sometimes dealers just quote crazy shit because they know customer won't authorize it and car can be picked up so no longer a issue for them
