just turned 23 (got my F10 right when I turned 22). My first car was also a 5-series but cost about 1/20th the price of my current one (an 89 535i - fixed it up myself).

Worked in finance before, taking two years working with a nonprofit in education, likely returning to finance/Venture Capital in June once this two year commitment is over. Also manage some real estate. With US lease rates, driving a 5-series isn't really all that impractical (~5-600/month vs. what, 2-300 than a more "normal" vehicle? - boils down to a minor difference in rent in a lot of cities. That said, I did also buy a house leading people to believe that I'm crazy).

Another practical point for young drivers, particularly males, is that insurance rates are the same or lower on a 5-series vs. 3-series and much lower for a 535 than an M3. This is a major point when even with a perfect driving record auto insurance can balloon to several hundred a month (mine is $120 which is expensive but reasonable enough).
