One thing that worked for family dogs that would freak out when they left is leave a sweatshirt and/or pants that have been worn for a while in the cage (or on the couch if free roaming) so the dog has something with your scent to calm it down. Worked after a few days, they came home to the dog sleeping on top of the clothing.
