Before you disconnect the battery, scan the battery with that reader, im sure the reader has a built in feature to tell you the battery voltage.

If battery voltage is healthy then clear any codes that are present. After that, disconnect the negative cable and leave it disconnected for 10-15 mins (wrap it up in a cloth or something, make sure it doesn't touch anything!). Connect the cable and go for a drive. See if codes come back.

Battery voltage should be 12.6V with key OFF and 13.5-14.5V while car running.
