You are only 3k over the extended warranty, but still under the 7 years. I hope you have the service history since you bought it, like all oil changes done on time, even if not done by the dealer. If so, I think you have a good shot at BMW covering it, just push for it and dont give in. If your engine is shot, it may be more difficult but they may meet you half way. If the engine is fine, they may cover the timing chain and guide replacement. Just dont be angry, work with them calmly and professionally. BMW has always stepped up.
Mine was no questions asked but i was just within warranty, and nothing broke. i heard the signs and took it in and the dealer said it was the timing chain guides and applied the SIB I gave you. Make sure you make them aware that you know about the SIB and the issues with these timing chain guides.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Ok! I'll definitely reference the SIB. Thing is, foolishly, I haven't kept up with oil changes and servicing the way I should have. It might put me in a tight spot moving forward. Car is at BMW today, and they should at least have an answer on what is wrong soon. Will update thread ASAP.
Well. BMW says needs new engine. Oil pump malfunctioned, or something similar, and they're saying 11K cost on engine. This is the absolute worst case scenario. I mean. BMW corporate out of the question now? Sigh. Please advise
