Hit the nail on the head, right there. Of course, you should put your entire comment in quotes as 'theoretical' - since it is nearly impossible to obtain a firearm for defense, and then the rules for retreat are so onerous, that it is highly likely you will end up on the wrong side of the law if used in self defense.

On a side note, where in the GP are you? Wife is from SA, we visit family there annually. My BIL lives in Sandton, other in laws are all in KZN.
