If the older TPM sensor are recognized by my vehicle, wouldn't that imply they are of the correct frequency? If not, I'd get an error light. Is there perhaps other code sent by a TPM sensor that is not compatible with another vehicle, so wouldn't these sensors be vehicle specific also?
It is not a theory, you can look it up yourself.
Any place that sells them will list a frequency.
Your car will list a frequency.
How would any place, including bmw, know what car they are mating with?
