I'll be doing the same job on my newly-acquired F11 (2013 pre facelift small nav screen) at some stage soon, so I'll be watching this one.
In my case though I'll be routing the cables through at roof level & bringing them down the passenger side a-pillar - only because mine is an estate.
From the pictures it looks like they use an adapter loom, which means the unit shouldn't need coding.
