I have this issue periodically, so I believe this has more to do with phone service than the car or setup.
I have on occasions been able to connect to internet in my driveway, other times I get the same "try later" message at the same location, this is why I thought perhaps the quality of the phone signal, especially the data one determines if you are able to connect. Guess you need 3G or 4G to get a good connection.
I connect my iPhone 5 with a lightning cable for music, but the handsfree and data is via Bluetooth. My phone is usually in the center console armrest so that may reduce my data signal and thus preventing my car to connect.
If you get the "try later" message, try to verify your phone has a good data connection, and place it somewhere where reception is good.
