Even if it is economy related, I don't think they can use that bullshit to explain their winner-take-all idea. If anything, it would be worse for the economy because if the winner is decided pretty early, there would be no incentive for teams to race. If teams don't race the "irrelevant" races and instead prepare next year's car at home, there would be fewer cars on the track = people can't watch their favorite teams and drivers/less exciting race = smaller turnout = ........
