BMWNA doesn't think diesels will sell in the states, but if you look at the sales numbers, specially at the X5, almost half of the sales were the 35d... I'd think that if they'd release the 40d and 50d here in the states, there might be a huge upswing in those purchases...

But it also has to do with the US governments strict emission standards on diesels... I love the diesel models BMW is releasing, but it does nothing for us here in the states, we are stuck with the 35d... Doesn't help that BMWNA recently decided that the 35d won't be continued in the 3 series next MY, They aren't listening to their customers, might force some of us loyal BMW owners to go to the dark side (MB) since they have a larger selection of cars with diesels (albeit the same diesel in all their models)
