I just bought a F11 520d 2015 with staggered wheel setup. My front tires are 245/45/18, and the rears are 275/40/18.

I get lots of errors regarding the drivetrain, and BMW says my VTG har boiled. The reason is my rear are not supported by BMW.

According to the calculators online, the wheel diameter is within 0,1% difference, så well within the 1% which should work.

I couldn’t understand what was wrong, until I checked the rim size. All wheels hav 18x8 rims. According to european directives, the rims on the rear should have been at least 9 inch wide, preferably 9,5. It seems the narrow rim has caused s balloon effect, hence the real diameter is not within 1 percent.

Is there any good and precise way to measure this for documentation. Someone I know suggested using diagnostic tools to measure the speed on each wheel trough the ABS sensors.

Does anyone know how to do that? Is that possible with Bimmerlink, or…?

You should physically measure the diameter of your front and rear tires. The measurement from the tire calculator is in theory.

I have a staggered setup, my car is 530d but I am way off oem specs and don't have any errors. It's probably a sensor, get a scanner and off you go.
You can start with Bimmerlink, there are cheap tools on Amazon like 30 usd.
