2013 550i questions for all who have them or owned previously.....
Hi so I purchased a 2013 550i xDrive and picking it up tomorrow and was curious to see what problems these cars have? What should I be aware of, etc.... Are these N63 engines still prone to the valve stem issues? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance |

Love my 2011 550i xdrive. But I'm currently dealing with sorting everything out and actually I'm going to get a few quotes on the price to replace the valve stem seals tomorrow from some independent mechanics. Mine is high miles and not even m sport, I have some mods but nothing crazy. It is paid off though and has been for a long time. My plan is to try and see what I can do to fix every possible issue (doesn't seem to be too many) then upgrade the bumpers lower it get some more exhaust work go catless etc. then eventually get a second car probably an m240i I will tell you that you do need to run at least a 5w40 I run liquimoly also use their oil saver additive. Usually two bottles helps. Make sure your coolant lines/radiator hoses are in proper condition. And if you have low miles I'd call bmw and setup a time to do a test for the class action lawsuit in order to see if you can replace the engine for free or for cheap. The usual n63 things. I love my 550i but it is a headache. I'm a college student so it's tough being I spend most of my money on the car, but once it's running 100% solid I'll be stoked. Take care of it and watch your oil levels as you drive |

Congrats. Aside from the engine itself, make sure to look over or verify condition or last replacement of the following (high tendency to go bad):
Some of these are on the cheaper end of the DIY, but last 2 items pray that you don't need them replaced/repaired as they're very expensive to repair. Quote:

I think it was 8 yrs/100k miles. I had mine replaced in late summer last year (2014 550i xdrive). I also had 1 bank of injectors replaced in the fall of last year, another extended warranty replacement due to cold starting hesitation and check engine light going on and off. Unfortunately they did not replace the oxygen sensor that went bad... said it was not part of the recall and subsequent extended warranty.

Stay on top of maintenance and check the oil level regularly. I pop the hood every Friday after I wash mine and thoroughly look everything over.
Get a good scanner that can show live data and check on things periodically. I have the nt510 elite and it is great. Let's you test coils, injectors, pumps, watch knock sensors, etc... |
