2014 535i sudden overheat then disappears immediately
Hey everyone,
My beloved 535i is giving me some issues. It happened a couple of times this week in the exact same way. I am driving on the freeway, and suddenly I see an orange message for overheating. 10 seconds later, red overheat and limp mode. Then 20 seconds later back to orange, then it goes away completely. I can hear the fans going full speed at that time, and I see the oil temperature going to about 250F. Seems to me that it is a legit overheat, however i wonder what could cause it to come in so quickly then go away. Dying waterpump? Air in the system? The second option would be surprising because I havent touched the cooling system in over a year. |

You can do a water pump test to see if it is failing, there are plenty Threads here on the Electric Water pump and cooling system, Cooling Temp sensor could also be faulty. When Thermostats fail they usually fail stuck open.
