DIY Ignition Cover Facelift

My first BMW. My first mod to it. I had to share

1. I started by buying a ignition coil cover from eBay.

2. Flipped it around and removed the BMW emblem. It is help on by these fold-able tabs. They are fragile so be careful not to get bend happy.

3. Part number for reference.

4. After a good wash and cleaning, i started with 2 coats of primer. Watching primer dry was so much more fun with my hookah .

5. Fast forward 24 hrs, primer is dry. On to the paint match. I got some arctic white spray paint from ebay. I did two coats over 2 days. 24hrs between coats to ensure proper drying.

6. Now the fun part. I wanted the raised lettering and lines to be black to match the rest of the engine compartment. I had to tape the crap outta the lettering to prevent any black on my white. I got 1/16" and 1/8" masking tape from McMaster-Carr. It took awhile but worked out well.

7. I'm sorry i didn't photograph this part. After taping, I ordered a ink roller from amazon. The raised lettering helped prevent errors, but after a few coats of model car paint, i got the result I wanted.

8. I then applied 2 coats of Krylon clear-coat in a semi gloss for the perfect finish. The data sheet for it showed it will stand up the temp in the engine bay.

9. Finished product. Not totally snapped into place. I'm waiting for springtime.

I am going to do the top of the air-box next to complete the look. Thanks for reading and I hope it inspires someone!

Nice...the paint turned out pretty good. is the paint heat tempered? I would suggest to do the intake cover as well so they both compliment each other. if it were the carbon fiber cover like i've seen guys do than i can see how you wouldn't have to but i think with just the white cover it almost seems off just a bit

Hey. Yeah, the paint is for high heat. You totally read my mind. I plan on doing the intake cover next to complete the look.
