Is it normal to smell something burning after spirited driving in a 535i?
As the title states I noticed that after spirited driving the car has a strong burning smell afterwards that lasts for a while. I redlined it a few times and had it on sport mode. The car has about 5200 miles now.
Just curious if other owners experience this and if it goes away through more miles and time on the road? This is my first BMW with turbo so I am not sure if I need to drive it soft after hard driving and let it cool down before turning the engine completely off? Any info or feedback would be seriously appreciated. |

I have the smell as well at times and I am sure I read somewhere it was the turbos, and that it is recommended that "drive it soft after hard driving and let it cool down before turning the engine completely off". Helps the turbos last longer, I guess.

Even after "regular" driving I let the engine idle for 30 seconds or so to let the turbo cool.

don't forget there are secondary electric coolant pumps that keep running after the car is shut off to cool the turbos. Well on the N63 engine there are.
You hear it up to a few minutes after the car is turned off, depending how hot the engine is. |
