General Demographic of the F10 Community
I've been thinking about it lately and now I wanted to get someone else's opinion.
Who do you guys think drive F10's? For example, here in San Diego every single Range Rover Sport is driven by a middle-age+ female (if you have proof otherwise please send pics). Anyways, I can guess that most of us on the forums are male (I could be wrong), on the younger side or are just better with tech than the average car owner (hence why we're using forums here in the first place), and are generally decently successful individuals if we care this much about our cars/own a midsize BMW (again I could be 100% wrong haha). I guess I'm just curious what all of y'all look like/what most of y'all drive . |

It really depends on which F10 you're talking about also.
The 528i crowd isn't really going to be the same as the 550i M Sport demographic. Here's how I'd break the F10 crowd (at least on this forum) apart... Mostly male/Tech Savvy/Enjoys Luxury and some level of interest in performance cars 528i/528i x drive: Group 1 - first time BMW owners testing the waters who don't want to take a risk on the higher HP engines Group 2 - People with long commutes who want luxury and space and something easy on the wallet 535i/535i x drive: Someone who likes to push their car from time to time but is willing to compromise for something easier on the wallet in terms of MPG and something reliable. If they're more of an enthusiast, they'll also get the M sport package. 550i/550i x drive: Car/BMW enthusiast who wants the power of a v8 muscle car in an unassuming polished package and sees it as a better value to the M5. M sport package is a must on this one =)

Look at my pic to the left... Yup! I drive looking like that... Demon! I think age doesn't matter as a lot of Car's & Coffee meets range from teens to guys in their 60's+

Forgot to add, most F10 drivers I know are in their 30s-40s.

5'er = Middle Aged Male, probably HH with Kids. > Avg Income
7 series even older and more nesters.. 3 series and 2 series will skew younger HH's with and without kids This is a very North American perspective. Forum members are not rep of broader buyer base imo - especially for 5'er owners who most likely do little to no mod's. The real question the mfgrs are asking is not only who, but for what "need" buyers are trying to satisfy. Coming from a 235i, I can tell you the 5'er and 2'er don't overlap in "need" at all lol!

2016 535dx M Sport here
I'm 27 years old (male), main job is online sales at a smallish company which I created with the majority owner (fine art gallery & antiques). Graduated Babson College (Entrepreneurship) I was givin my first BMW free at 16 which was an e34 525, and I've been hooked since (See sig). Finally with this one I was able to get something a bit nicer than a base model, and look to only go up from here. Will be sticking with 5 series' given I'm 6 foot 5 and was kidding myself trying to fit into my previous 3ers

Never really considered a BMW due to the saturation here (3's seem to be a dime a dozen) and being a lowly gummint employee. Was enjoying a Lincoln LS until replacement parts became more and more scarce so I figured I'd better move on. My main requirement was RWD which seriously limited my options. Long story short the final 2 were a 550 or Jaguar XF. For various reasons the BMW won; HOWEVER, after reading about the problems with the N63 engine I opted for the 535. The better balance and MPG are just a bonus as I could never utilize the power of the V8.
Oh.... Retired Air Traffic Controller and 58 when I purchased my '12 535i. |

I'm 43 and my 550i M Sport is my 4th BMW. I started w/an E36 M3 in my late 20s and now the F10 550. I bought the F10 because it's my daily and the M5 is just too aggressive for DC.
I'm a retired Naval officer now working for a robotics company.

+1... DC metro also and totally agree with you. The car scene here is pretty conservative compared to places like Florida and LA. Showing up to a gov client site in an M3 or M5 wouldn't be the best idea.

I retired out of the Pentagon and now doing Business Development for a company that requires frequent meeting around town. There's no way I could pull onto the Navy Yard with an M5 w/Akropovic exhaust and catless DPs...LOL!
