BMW DAB and station text
Has anyone with DAB managed to get station information text to work? The user manual suggests it should display station information which I take to mean info on the current show, song titles and artist names , etc.
This is standard broadcast information on DAB stations in the UK e.g. Radio 1, and I've seen it working on other manufacturers DAB modules, but not BMW. All I'm getting is a little 'i' on the display which when pressed with iDrive does nothing. Dealer says it should work? Anyone had it working? |

Hi, I was looking for that too on Dad's new F10 after reading the manual
All I could find was the station information not the track info. I must admit I didn't spot the i you refer too though, next time he brings the car over I will take a look! As you say its being broadcast because I have seen it on other devices. Have you got it set to the auto DAB FM switch over, its in the options menu for that station. You have to do it from the list that shows all DAB stations though not the saved list. Cheers Paul |

I'm pretty sure if you set the idrive display to dual display and show the 'Entertainment Details' on the right sode of the screen..... this shows the DAB details in my car.

It works fine in my car, but you have to turn on split screen, and select entertainment details to the right. Is typically shows the show, the current song and the next song.

I agree with eaglesrest. I am seeing the "i" but no additional information whereas in comparison to my E92's DAB, I was receiving the additional info on stations like Radio 1

As previous posted said, it only shows DAB station info text in the right hand side of the split screen setting - set the split screen to "entertainment details" and you get the dab information. A bit annoying, as in my E60 with much less impressive iDrive, this showed all the time - I prefer to keep the right hand side split screen to nav/map so no info for me.

Hi Morkjt,
Which station is showing you the info? Perhaps if Eaglesrest, tunes to that station too, if he can, logically he might see the info ? As I guess you should have the same software? Cheers Paul |

Works fine on my car too, with it on the right hand side of the split screen. Try BBC Radio 1 on DAB - they tell you what song is playing, the name of the DJ etc.
I guess its possible that some parts of the country don't broadcast that info though. Can you get it on another DAB radio? |

Ok, if needed, here's proof it works - not a great photo, taken at night with a blackberry - but i have the main screen set to "radio" and the split screen set to "entertainment details". The extended information available from BBC Radio Five Live is clearly visible from the Arsenal game tonight

Thanks for posting. Mine is identical to that with the exception that the little i doesn't have the extra text next to it on the right. It's missing
what car model and build month do you have? Last edited by archivedaccount; 10-19-2010 at 04:15 PM.. |

Hi Morkjt,
Thanks for posting that picture very helpful evidence to show the service deparment. What build week is your car? Dad's is a 530D SE week 37 build with the com box etc, but its not showing this info. The DAB radio in the house does.... so the station is broadcasting it. We just tried planet rock, radio 1, Classic nothing after the I. Next time I am in the car will take a picture too! |

Service Department, confirmed Dad's car is not behaving as it should.
(Recently we also test drove a Z4 with DAB and it did have the info. ) They have no idea why though and they are going to investigate, car will be going back to them next week. The strange thing is the white i is present when there should be text as it is in the picture above, but there is no text. On stations with no text the i appears to grey? So its half working just not displaying the text. Did anyone else take theirs to the dealer? Any one get a solution yet? |

@morkjt we posted at the same time ,
Thanks for the feedback, ok so Dad's car was actually built after yours. Very strange. Do you have the combox, i.e can you connect your ipod with the apple cable? Cheers P |

I have the same problem to. With splitscreen and entertainment info I just get the "i" and not much more. The DAB radio I have in the kittchen show "everything" on the same stations. My car is produced in week 37, maybe it needs a software update.
I got the combox, so maybe thats the problem. Last edited by Touring; 10-21-2010 at 04:28 PM.. |

Thanks, Interesting, I wonder if the combox is related to this recent change in behaviour?
Is there any one with a com box who has the DAB information working in the UK/Europe? |

I don't have full postcode search or remote vehicle locate from iPhone app working though, so it's pretty complicated. |
