I priced a new set of OEM tires. $1500. Ouch! My E93 tires lasted me about 14-15K miles. We'll see how these do. But considering I've already been driving the twisties in the car, I'm guessing the F10 tires won't last long either.

RFTs are pricey and don't last long. On my E92, I swapped them out for a set of regular tires, recognizing that the incidence of tire failure is low. I carry a BMW flat kit in the trunk, and a card for AAA. So far, so good. Except that I haven't noticed any improvement in ride, handling or fuel economy from the change.

The tires and suspension on the F10 provide a *much* smoother ride than the experience on the E93 I had. Ride quality is no longer an issue on the F10. Personally, I like the extra safety and security of driving with RFTs, so I'm gonna stick with 'em even with the extra expense.
And I actually used the RFT feature on the E93. I ran the tire tread so low on the E93, the tire actually lost pressure. Didn't realize the interior of the tire would wear first on the rear since the outside of the fronts wear first. Didn't notice I wore the rears out until I started the car and it said I had no pressure in one of the tires. Ooops. |
