Gotta wonder why in the blue hell they did this for some lame Apple instead of most popular os in the world, Android... kinda like what some Audi would do...

Android support is in development, as mentioned in other recent BMW announcements, slated for 2013.

iOS is a much easier platform for them to develop for outside of any contract they have. Since over 80% of iPhones run the current release of the apple OS, its much easier to deal with compatibility than android. I believe the percentage of phones up to date on that platform is somewhere just north of 15%.

Also Apple Engineers have worked with BMW Engineers for years now ... while I agree one needs to look at all the other platforms as well, it's just not economically feasable for BMW to do so ...
I guess BMW had to pick someone so they picked Apple ... guess the old saying holds true "One cannot please everyone" I am glad they did go with Apple ... I worked on PC's from 1984 to 2000 then I switched to Apple ... glad I did

Is this something upgradable at the dealer? I am just about to take delivery of MY12 June production E92M... it's not something I work up about but would be nice to get the updated app software if it's possible.

This being said to me sounds like you guys are biased towards android or windows. I am a software developer/programer/engineer. Worked most of my life on windows and ever since I started working on both apple OS is way better imo. Don't get me wrong they each have their pros and cons...to each his own. I think the majority will agree with BMW (since they only use the best) that they made the right choice. |

Also, just because BMW uses a platform hardly means it's 'the best'. A responsible company would develop and integrate across multiple platforms. Especially for something like an automobile which is used by literally hundreds of thousands of various consumers; all with varying preferences in their mobile device choices. ...You should know this, being in software development... Read this: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...port_says.html Stated in this article: "Both of the top two operating systems managed modest gains but Apple more than doubled Android's growth with the Google OS seeing a 0.8 point during the three months while iOS added 1.7 percent over the same period." Also as stated before it cost alot of money and not very feasible. I never stated anywhere that apple has a higher percentage user than android. It will surpass android devices, I personally think. They both have pros and cons. When I talk about majority I am trying to refer to an article. I wish I could find that article, it was done stating that majority of BMW owners own iphone devices. Which is probably why they went that route. |

Here another link I found. Not the article but a thrad/poll from BMW owners.
http://www.bmwenthusiasts.co.uk/foru....php?f=3&t=334 Stated in the thread: " just recently left iPhone and went for the Samsung Galaxy S2. Feeling all smug thinking it was 'superior in every way' n all that but it's utter shite, not sure if it's the phone or the operating system but needless to say I'll be getting rid soon and going back to iPhone. Can't beat iPhone, no matter what all the phone snobbery says" BMW owners: Iphone: 69% Other smart phones (probably windows and android): 31% |

Quite simply because the iPhone is the best selling phone in the market
Sure android as an os is more popular that iOS But that market share is split up among what like 200 phones? So which ones do they make it compatible with? On the iOS front you have the 3GS shape, and the 4/4s shape That's it And that other advantage is the software upgrades, something alien to most android owners Elementary my dear Watson
