Just have to hang up my BMW skids
I know I shouldnt come here to vent, but where else is anyone going to listen to a long time BMW 550 enthusiast. Well maybe another BMW forum.
My 2016 550 Msport is nearing its 3 year term and its about to mature. I visited BMW and found a 550M and I got to say it just doesn't look like the F10.Yeah allot of us new this and I just couldnt bare it. There is nothing aggressive or mean looking about it. It looks weak, like a VW Passat on steroids. Personally the design team should all be fired! And they want anywhere from 90-104 K nicely loaded. I am on my third 550. Is anyone else walking away from BMW? The sedan market appears to be on the death march! Now Caddilac is copying the BMW motor displacement with a twin turbo v-8....Im just not ready for a caddy I am under 50!........ |

Same here, my lease is up in February and I just can’t get excited by anything BMW has to offer. The new 550 is pretty blah and barely different from my current car so I’m not even looking at it. I’m going to look at the new M5 but reviews of the car indicate lack of steering feel once again which is a big disappointment. I’m going to check out Porsche since they still seem to offer outstanding driver involvement and driving dynamics which BMW seems to have abandoned. I’m a pretty big BMW fanboy and I’m very disappointed that BMW has gone away from what made them great in the first place and I hate to say it but this might be my last BMW.

550 is a good used car value with their 60-70% depreciation over the first 3 years. I'm ok with spending 20-30k for a slightly used 550 but no way would I ever spend 80-90k on a new one, there are much better options at that price point. Go test drive a Tesla Model S or CTS V, i'd take the Tesla personally.

Doing the same guys. Have a MY16 550 M-Sport on lease. Had an order pending for a MY19 M5 CompPac and withdrew it after taking a friend's new F90 M5 out for a spin...just didn't feel it. Wasn't enough of a wow to justify. And I really wanted to love it. And those new 550's...yak...look like a bar of Irish Spring (soap) with wheels and some door cutouts.
So solution was to jump ship...bought a 911 C4S. You can get a very very low milage CPO for under 100K.

I saw a G30 M5 at the dealer and liked it. A few weeks later I saw one driving and I was unpleasantly surprised at how mild and almost bland it looked. No growl, no bite.
But I wouldn't write BMW off completely. The F30 M3 is very aggressive.

I leased my 2016 535 right after I saw the G30 in person which I did not like . I still have less than a year left on the F10 lease and have no idea what I am going to replace it with. New 3 series will be out next year, may be I will look at those. I know I wont get an Audi or a Merc but might consider X5 as a replacement. Like others stated, this is the 1st time, I am not a fan of anything BMW makes.

Overall I am disappointed with the steering wheel response. The car was fairly new and way more expensive than I can afford so didn't speed a lot, with the fear I might crash, but engine felt very responsive. HUD is improved. Gear shifter doesn't feel as great. All said and done, I wouldn't be as keen to shell out 120k+ when I could still be happy with 90% of the car at half the price from another brand. |

There are certainly a few ugly images above of the new G30. That steering wheel is all wrong to my eyes on two fronts; the three spokes and the Sherman-Peabody boof head look. And the front is all botox.
This is what I like. Last edited by AussieBob; 10-14-2018 at 04:41 PM.. |

I know I said in an earlier post that this would probably be my last BMW but after going in for my last free oil change on my 550, I ended up turning it in 5 months early for a 2018 M3 ZCP.
Can read about it here: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1545755 Driving the M3 somewhat renews my faith in BMW being able to build an engaging car. BMW can still build a great driving car but unfortunately it seems like their customers aren't looking for that anymore and they're building what sells.

Too me the G30 5 looks very much like an F10 when driving down the road, and then on closer look you realize its not an F10, but a car trying to appeal to the the appliance buyer.
Really sad, but to me the G30 just seems like a softened F10, so as not to offend anyone. Even the new M5 looks like a soft sedan, unlike the F10 M5 which is a lot more aggressive. And the F10 M5 was a lot more toned down than the E60. Oh well, I guess when you are designing so many models now, you lose your focus and not take too many risks in styling. Remember the days when there was a 3, 5, 7, and maybe an 8? Those days waiting for the new model was special. Now I have to stare at the badge of a luxury car to see what model it is? |
