2011 535 Spark Plug Install
Purchased Bosh spark plugs, got it apart and my 12 point 14mm deep socket won't get onto the plug inside the cylinder head. Guessing I need a special socket. Local auto part stores are clueless. It's Sunday and the dealer parts department is closed. Anybody know what socket or where to get one? Also the rear two coils/spark plugs look to be difficult to access. Looked on You Tube and searched the forums only to find E60 tutorial. Any help appreciated. No way will I pay the dealer $430 to swap the plugs. Lol

Yiou need the thin walled sockets for those engines
Easiest for you in the US would probably be the Assenmacher Specialty Tools SP1412 14mm, 12-Point Thin Walled Spark Plug Socket. Available from Amazon.com Hazet in Europe make the original OEM ones that are available on Amazon.de Hazet 4766-2 or 4766-3

Does anyone know if there is a DIY for this job or a good youtube video? I have found 535i N54 videos and 335i N55 videos, but no 535i. Both of those should be close enough, but I'd like to make sure of what I am getting into before I start.
Also, I ordered the thin walled socket pictured above, but it doesn't fit the plugs. WTF? I have double checked both the socket and the plugs.

Has anyone actually done this job to comment on it? When I went to buy plugs from Rockauto, the Bosch plugs were out of stock so I bought Denso plugs. I also ordered the plug socket e90fleet referenced. When the Denso plugs showed up, they are too big for the Hazet narrow wall socket. So I trucked off to the dealer to look at the OEM plugs. They have a smaller socket area, that is 12-pointed like the socket. They are also $20/ea, which is fucking ludicrous for a spark plug. So I looked up the Bosch plug on Amazon, but they show a conventional looking head. WTF?

I've done the install... pretty simple just take your time!!!
I bought the socket from my local autozone!! To see the 3 plugs towards the back, just remove the intake pipping and wire harness holder and you should have access to all6 plugs!! |

Holy crap, two years later
So I have procrastinated, and procrastinated as life happened, and am finally getting around to trying to do this job. There isn't a DIY on here, I can't find any F10 specific youtube videos, and even Pelican Parts doesn't seem to have an F10 section at all. How do you clear out the back half of the engine to get at plugs #4, #5, and #6? Reference the image, You can see #1, #2, and #3 right in the middle of the picture, they have all been changed. #4 is directly under the air intake piece that is running down the left side of the engine. It has a couple fittings on it that don't want to move. #5 and #6 are under the wire bundles and and foam rubber chunk. I have the wire bundles out, but the plastic track needs to be removed to then also remove the foam rubber piece. I can't figure out how the plastic track is attached. Any help would be appreciated. In return, I will try to post up an actual DIY when I get this done.
