Madmach - I just had a new N63 put in my 2011 550i in November. Just changed the oil today for the first time (after 2000mi). Pay attention to break-in procedure (look in your manual if you have one). Mine was 1200 miles, never over 4500rpm and no "kick-downs" of the trans (but I have a 6-speed). Vary your rpms - don't drive at the same rpm for a long time (I was varying my rpm every few minutes. Also did a lot of pull up to 3-4krpm in one gear and letting the car slow down in that gear to get that engine-braking slowdown, which from what I've read is good for breaking in the piston rings.
I'm no engine break-in expert. If you read online you'll see 15 different suggestions from 8 different people. But, the above is what I settled on. I guess the only way to know if it was right or wrong is to see how long the engine lasts, and even then, who knows. haha!

Good luck and hope it brings you joy for a long time.
BTW, for a little extra juice I went with the BMS Stage 1 piggy back from burger tuning. It is literally plug and play. I take it off before going to the dealer for service and has been trouble free (takes 5 minutes most days, sometimes can be a pain in the ass to disconnect the passenger side). I am sure the dealer could detect it was there is they looked but from my research and experience, the power increase is mild enough that it won't cause any issues. |

Car has been running well but now randomly goes in to park when I stop so it's headed back to the dealership tomorrow.
I also got a screw in the edge of the tread in my rear driver's side tire so I replaced the rears with Continental Extremecontact Sports today. Hopefully the dealership can fix it quickly so I can have it this weekend. They seem to think it might be a problem with the shifter. |

You aren't kidding so I got this text today from the dealership after having them check the transmission:
So we have been running tests all day and found the issue to be from the mechatronics which is basically the electronic part of the transmission that receives information from multiple sensors. So we have started a case with BMW to see what they would like us to do. I will give you a call as soon as we hear back from them. Thank you! The service department has been great but the car.... |

On the one hand, BMW seems to be fixing the car's problems with minimal hassle so far.
On the other hand, don't dare ask what's going to break next because something will! I just hope they can get everything fixed up and in good order soon, man. Good luck and continue to keep us posted, please. |

So I thought they might just replace the transmission but they are just going to replace the mechatronics, transmission pan and a crank position sensor so they will have it until next week. I think I've had the car 5 days out of the 29 days that I've owned it lol.

Well I went to the dealership and took the advice of an employee there and opened a case with BMWNA. They were interested in the video of the car coming on and off the flat bed trailer. I'll keep you all in the loop.

I have never even driven a 550i, and I'm glad I haven't, because I would have been so hooked on the power that I would have bought a non TU version with 50-60k because that's what was in my budget when I was shopping 2 years ago.
I instead went for a very vanilla looking 2011 535i xDrive, non sport, but very well optioned. Had 19k on the clock and was well looked after. I have full bolt ons and JB4 (yes I know it's primitive), but it has been running amazing and at 43k miles it's never even had a check engine light on before. |

Check to make sure transmission is perfect now while it's fresh. I had met mech unit replaced but on cold start if went from reverse to drive quickly it slipped slightly so got whole transmission replaced.

So far so good except for a 4th gear shift under hard acceleration, the car cut throttle hard enough to throw me forward and took about 2 seconds to shift but I haven't had it happen again.
