Parking Brake Failure
Hello all,
It’s great to be here and a proud member of this innovative community. Im new here and just signed up as I want to seek some guidance on a parking brake failure on my F10 2013 which only appears in cold or wet weather. Throughout the summer it’s perfectly fine. The brake functions it’s just the warning light that keeps triggering. I think I’ve found the problem so I am after the spec or BMW part number of the o ring on brake caliper housing (photo attached), which acts as a sealant to prevent moisture from entering the internals of the actuator. Any help much appreciated. Many thanks Casa |

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately you never stated if it was front or rear.
Here's a link to one of the online part database sites. You can enter the last 7 digits of your VIN...or select the correct tabs...then go to the brake diagrams. From there you should be able to find the part nbr in the index below the diagrams. Once you have the 11 digit BMW part nbr...you can them easily shop using the part nbr (type "BMW xx xx x xxx xxx" {where x=the actual part nbrs} into a google search). www.bimmercat.com Example: front brakes Example: rear brakes

Thanks so much. Can you recommend one that I can use as BMW sadly don’t supply one. Much appreciated.

Unfortunately all I’m seeing is the whole caliper or the seal for the piston, which seems to look a bit different. This is the part number I’m finding. 34206786064
Another option would be to go to a local industrial supplier like Grainger or Fastenal and see if they can measure the oring and match it. An issue here is not knowing exactly the makeup of the rubber material. It can swell or be damaged if you use the wrong rubber incompatible fluid. In industrial applications where I work, Viton is usually specified because it’s more resistant to various additives in hydraulic systems. |

HA! You guys are absolutely correct…I read right past “parking brake”. I even reread the original post several times to see if I missed front or rear. I guess “parking” didn’t register in my brain.

There isn't one. Your motor is likely just going bad

Just guessing here, but the computer could sense the motor is drawing more current that it is supposed to because it’s getting stuck and then throws the error?

You’ve been ever so helpful — thank you. One more. Is is normal to get the Autohold error and parking light failure together as a fault.

My understanding, the OP's EMF is working, even though getting a warning. Interesting to know if Autohold is also working and the EMF takes over when switching off. If so, I'm also minded the EMF may be drawing more current when damp, triggering the warning. |

All
Problem has now been resolved. It was water ingress in the base of the boot (trunk) and this was getting to the connector of the EMF module. We cleaned it out and let it dry and now hey presto it’s all good. The actuator resistance was 1ohm on the cables so new it wasn’t the EMF actuators. I have videos if anyone is interested in the process if you ever get this problem. Thank you all so much for your valuable feedback and patience in answering my questions. Have a lovely weekend all.
