14' 535i - #6 injector to fuelrail fitting has micro leak
Alright everyone, any advice is much appreciated!
Just finished my valvtronic motor replacment, got everything back together and when doing my prime sequence, (the car has been down since april, so I left the injectors unplugged and following the prime guide from fcp euro) Upon priming for the first 10 seconds, I went to check for leaks. There is the tiniest of leaks coming from the #6 injector to fuel rail fitting out the top and bottom of the nut, see photo. It's such a small leak.. but leaking fuel is no beuno, no matter how small it is. I have taken the fuel rail off, cleaned the fitting area, and put it back on, three different times now and to no avail, it still has a micro leak when "priming" for 10 seconds and going to check for leaks. Aside from pulling the injector out, which would require me to get a new decouple ring and Teflon seal, (yes, I replaced both on all 6 during this job) and yes, (I know i only " have" to remove 1-4 to do this job, but i figured while I'm in here, it wouldn't hurt to replace all the seals at once . Amd this is what I get for it!! Any ideas on what to check? I suppose the only options left are purchasing a new injector, and if that doesn't fix it, a completely new rail? Surely I am just missing a spec of sand or something preventing a perfect seal, no issues on 1-5... Do you think NOT having the injector plugged in and allowing it to fire is causing the micro leak possibly due to the excess pressure in the injector? Would appreciate any advice or thoughts. ctcarbonari StradaRedlands Hoa |

Check the mating surface on both to see if there’s any damage or debris. Slight imperfection will cause a leak. If none then reattach again. When you place the rail over the injectors, does it align over all 6 injectors perfectly? If it doesn’t, it may be slightly bent during the initial removal process. You may have to slightly bend it back before reinstall again. During install, jiggle it a little as you hand tighten it to make sure it seats perfectly then torque it down to spec. If it still leak then the only option is to swap the injector with another one and see if the leak follows. If it doesn’t, rail is damage. If it does, injector is damage. I personally wouldn’t replace the seal on the injectors since it haven’t gone through any heat cycle.
Note: during install of the fuel rail, you do have to coat the threads with ATF fluid. Last edited by Hoa; 07-18-2025 at 09:35 AM.. |

GREAT breakdown on process form Hoa! Hope you can get this sorted quickly JMc2018. I wonder if the rail was bent somehow while it was in storage?

Alright everyone: to close out this thread, if you have a similar situation, follow the steps listed above! I had to loosen the t clamp that holds the i jectors down, and wiggle the injector, while applying pressure down from the fuel rail itself, while threading the nut on. And it sealed up. The fuel rail def got deformed and was causing the issue.
I THANKFULLY got it to work, I realized by nature, i was installing them all 1,2,3,4,5,6... so, I assume there was the slightest bit of misalignment by the time I got to that #6 injector to rail fitting. So i started with #6 and went the reverse order. I removed the fuel rail and inspected the seat, and did not see any debris or pitting, so I assumed it to be a misalignment issue, and it was! Just took me 6 tries. Woof. I let her idle for a bit, changed the oil and went out for a half mile test drive and checked to see if there was any Weeping, looked dry so I took it for a longer drive on highway, and again no leaking! Woohoo!! Thanks guys for chiming in! Hope this thread might help someone else if they have the same problem! Pic of my engine bay finally tidied up after 4 months!! Cant belive its been that long, what a joy these F10's are to drive! Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it!! Hoping to get her washed and get the engine bay detailed up, its amazing how dirt all of a sudden pops after you install shiny new parts! |
