This is the story of how I found myself recently buying a very low mileage 2016 F10 535i.

Nine years ago, my son-in-law asked me if I was going to Melbourne (Australia) on business. As it happened, I was going the following week. He then asked me to look at a car for him, which I did. It was a 2010 F10 535d in great condition being sold by BMW Melbourne.

After looking at it I called him and said, if you don't buy it, I will! He bought it. Having seen how good the 5 series were, I lusted after one myself and eventually bought this, 2010 535i F07 535i.



What a brilliant car. The ultimate long distance cruiser. We did a few 1,000 km (620+ miles) trips and it was just great. It was immaculate in presentation after I detailed it and we took out Best in Show at the Australian BMW Nationals in 2017 in Brisbane.

For my adrenaline fix I had an E46 323Ci as my track car which was a lot of fun and a hoot to drive.



But in 2018 I changed jobs and the available parking space at work was too small for the 535i. Very reluctantly, I traded it on for a 1 Series F10 125i M Sport. In retrospect, I should have told them to stick the job and kept the 535i GT. It was like being an extra on the Muppet Show!



After driving the 1 Series for about 4 years I concluded that I didn't need two track cars, because that's essentially what I had. It was time to grow up, I was told! So I sold the track car but a year later started developing a back problem which was ultimately traced down to the 1 series being so low to the ground (and my ageing body as well, I was told).

Having had enough of working for the Muppet's I left and now had the opportunity to buy something that wouldn't aggravate my back.

Then one day, I saw a 2016 F10 535i M Sport for sale, with only 34,000 km or 21,000 miles on the clock. Genuine mileage too! Well, to cut a long story short, I drove it and that was that, it followed me home.



It's in great mechanical condition with a full service history but cosmetically, not where I want it to be. So the plan this year is to detail it so that it really stands out and fix up a few small issues like kerb rash on two of the wheels. That will keep me off the streets for a while!

The Minister for Finance and War loves it and thinks it's a great improvement on the 1 Series which was more like a turbocharged roller skate (and I mean that in a positive way)! And my back doesn't hurt any more either!
