The F10 5-series has often by called a baby 7-series, especially since its size has grown over the outgoing E60 5-series. Just what is the size difference between the current 5 and 7 series? Let's have a look. Photos courtesy of Auto Motor und Sport
BMW F10 5-series Length - 192.8 inches (4899 mm) Width - 73.2 inches (1860 mm) Height - 57.6 inches (1464 mm) Wheelbase - 116.8 inches (2968 mm) BMW F01 7-series Length - 199.7 inches (5072 mm) Width - 74.9 inches (1902 mm) Height - 58.2 inches (1478 mm) Wheelbase - 120.9 inches (3070 mm)

too bad they couldn't use the f10 with msport package like the f01, would have been a better looking comparison

I'm actually impressed with the F10. The E60 made me wonder what BMW were thinking. The F10 reminds me of how great the E39 looked. I'll definitely put this on my to buy list. Next to the new 6 series.

WOW ! That is close. Don't believe the difference is only 3.5% in length but the 7 sure looks a lot bigger than that in the first photo.
Maybe it's the angle they took it. Is that the Sophisto Gray color ? |

Unfortunately the 5 now drives like the 7. If I wanted a 7, I would have bought one. Better interior colors. I've had a lot of 5's, I know 5's, this
2011 5 ain't like no 5. Maybe when I can do something about the body roll by lowering it. However no springs available yet for 550ix. Steering feel will still be crap. Just came from a 1 hour freeway drive, through a number of high speed curves, and this car just doesn't have it. |

When I test drove a new 550i recently. I came away thinking the same thing. It felt more like a 7 series then a 5 series. Which in my opinion is not good thing in my opinion. I like the extra room and all in 5 series but the overall driving dynamics are not as pure.
Because as a owner of both E39 & E60 5 series and E65 7 series. I could easily tell the difference in overall driving dynamics when I jumped out of 7 series and got in a 5 series. Quote:

i agree, the 5 drives like a boat and the steering does not feel sporty at all! im dropped on H&Rs and the car still feels very floaty! i cant wait till my KWs come in and slam the hella out of it and stiffen up the suspension! |
