I wouldnt recommend over 500hp out of the 550i which is what the current reputable mod companies are putting out. From what I understand if optioned properly the 550i can accept the extra 90hp load without placing strain.

Highly unlikely on just an ECU tune - that's even way beyond M5 figures. Besides, you will need to upgrade the tranny, intercooler as well to handle of these hp & tq.

This is a twin turbo V8, there better be some big power numbers.

I think a much bigger turbo and air intake will be required as well to get the job done.
Imo, way too many components to change and big $ to make the car go 1 second faster (0-60mph) and 1-2 second better on a 1/4mile. The alternative is bypass the regalur 550 and straight to the M5 right from the start, at least you are half way there already and with just an ECU tune, you should get your 650hp. Thats crazy. The M5 will cost you probably 25k more easy(bigger money than it will take to hit 650 i assure you) and will only have about 500whp. The M5 makes no sense to me but I guess there are people who drink the kool aid though.

I am in no way a gear head but from asking around I think the transmission and various other components can handle about 500hp, if the car cant handle the hp from the engine to the wheels something will break.

HP is not what breaks driveline components it's the TQ and the 8speed auto with some relatively minor changes is already handling 800ft lbs of torque(on the rolls royce ghost) no problem. Here's a little hint, look at all the companies offering flash tunes for the N63 have you noticed they all make the exact same power at the same rpms an everything? Why do you think that is? Because they all bought the tune from the same guy! Not many people have had a crack at this engine and when they do I'm sure we'll see a big power increase. Put it like this, I can probably tune, swap out turbos and rebuild the motor for the cost of the M5.

ACS is the only company I have seen that goes above 500hp, they have the ACS5 package that raises to 540hp.
Not sure about hp/tq and breakage but if the company that is doing its mod doesn't offer a comprehensive warranty in lieu of BMW, there is a reason.

Lots of research to be done by you and yet not enough aftermarket mod parts out there yet to get to your goal of 650hp.
Maybe Dinan will be working on S2 in the next year or so. |

You are wrong. Look what we have done with the N54, it produces roughly 270whp and 275wtq stock and we have them ranging all the way up to 510wtq and 520wtq now. Give it time. The 550i will be more common than the M5, which means more potential customers. We will see them producing big numbers in the next 2 years. Dont expect anything drastic in the next 6 months.
