It appears that broken springs are a recurring item on our cars.
I took it for an MOT today and the rear passanger side spring had snapped. Thankfully all repaired quickly and back on the road the same day. Thats two rear springs replaced now: First in Nov 2015 at 76k (right rear) Second in Aug 2018 at 106k Car was registered Dec 2010. |

I'm on 112k and not had any suspension components go at all...minus the diff bushing. Although it does sit on the M40 most of its life.. |

Until around March 2017 we used to carry out a lot of motorway driving down to Berks, since then we've reduced our mileage and over the past year only covered 7k.
But that 7k was main around Edinburgh which is littered with deep pot holes. I think the damage is a combination of - Pot holes - RFT's - Running the RFT's at 3.0 bar on the rear to ensure the tyre wears evenly rather than on the edges - and dare I say it, when the other half is driving I'd be interested to understand what pressures everyone else is running on the RFT's 245/40/19 and 275/35/19 and whether they are wearing evenly. |

I think it's 2.7bar for the 275/40/18
The 19 inch wheels run as follows for a full car 245/40/19 at 2.6bar 275/35/19 at 3.1bar https://www.puretyre.co.uk/wp-conten...re-Placard.jpg The recommended pressure for my rears appears to be 2.2bar - 3 adults 3.1bar - 5 adults plus luggage I've been running my rears at 3.0bar perhaps that is too high, but it does give even tyre wear. Does anyone run any lower pressures on RFT's without tyre edge wear? Last edited by gtthree; 08-30-2018 at 03:38 PM.. |

Do springs wear out and break under normal circumstances? I'm about to replace the struts on my F10 535 and I've never had issues with springs on my other BMWs. I generally only do the struts as I don't do any track days or extremely hard driving on my cars.
