I'm all for 550. The thing is a monster and when you slap it in sport+ and drive it manual style it rips. Mine is stock and puts you back in the seat like my old vetter.

Congrats! You'll never regret buying more than what you need or want, unless it puts you into the poor house and causes you mental stress, but you did not indicate this so enjoy!

If you are leasing then paying $200 more per month isn't worth it to me. However, if you are buying outright the price difference is within 5K similar build and it's totally worth it.
The 535 is quick The 550 is fast Alan

I had the same dlillema. Had a 535 loaner, went to go run numbers on it. Saw the 550 and drove that and... Well the rest is history!! The price is too close to not go all the way. Like others have said the 550 is extremely fast considering its size!! 550 gets my vote! Good luck

You could also opt for the 535i and tune it
I personally got the 535i because of the gas mileage difference, (and also at the time I couldn't afford 550). With my car I average 30 mpg on the highway. How much does 550 get? I think the sticker was 21 on the highway? |

Price delta between my nicely optioned 2012 550i and a 2012 535i was about $3-6k depending on how one outfitted the car. The 535i is a base car compared to the 550i in that as others have mentioned once similarly optioned out then the cars become more equal from a price stand point.
I looked at the 535i and from a price and gas mileage standpoint it was a choice but knowing me and my driving style and considerations after they showed me the 550i's next to it...it wasn't an even contest...especially since no M5's were available!
