That and the free upgrade to Pro Nav, free Ambient lighting, better residual and extra dealer contribution, meant it was a no brainer, and cost me very little extra overall.

Yeah there is, I got a bit upset when I found out you can't have the LCI with the sport shifter but came across a swap on here in the american section. Because they're both electronic units you can just swap them straight out but I think you may have to code it.

Can't say for sure if it was BMW or my dealer, but it cost me nowt.
I was an extra £40 per month to go 530d instead of 520d. But then I was speccing ambient lighting and Pro Nav on the 520d anyway. But then again, I did scoop a 20% discount in the deal, with an extra £800 onto my part-ex and the 5 year servicing thrown in too. There was sooooo much going on in the final deal, it was difficult to say who was giving me what. I just got the numbers to work for me. |

I was disappointed too, and thought about the swap initially, but as it turns out the wand is a lovely thing to use, much better than the same wand I hand in my E60. The E60 had a lot more lateral movement, whereas the F10 is accurate and distinct in movement and nicely sprung.

Looking to order a F10 520d, can anyone advise a decent dealer with a good rate of discount??
Currently, a local garage is set to charge £700 just for delivering the car to the showroom...is this normal ?? |

Phil, on my invoice it does say that delivery charge is £700 but its all covered in the list price you will be given.
You can get a good deal with a little pushing but a brilliant deal will take that much more effort. I was disappointed that I could get as big a discount as some others on here but for me it was just good enough. If I remember correctly Balster managed £27k on a base 520d auto at Stratstone, I could only push my dealer to 31k with the auto before options. |

Yep £700 delivery is normal, and within OTR price.

Phil,
I would be very interested to hear an honest the result of your negotiation for a 520d. I have tried to achieve the levels indicated in the forum by approaching many different dealers. However it seems to me the best you can achieve is a similar discount offered with a Broadspeed quote. This is between 13% and 15% on the list price. Achieving 20% seems to be day dream. Or may be I'm a useless negotiator ! Nigel |

I'd suggest anyone struggling to get at least 20% discount should approach some third part funders - Network/Leaseplan/Lex etc.
I got roughly 23% discount on a 330d F31 before Christmas. BMW could get nowhere near..... I got the finance details via a broker for Network and took them to my local dealer who then organized everything else. The end result was that I took delivery of my car from my local BMW dealer and to all intents and purposes, it was just as though I'd bought the car direct from BMW themselves. The dealer told me they made nothing on the car but they got points from BMW for shifting a car. I'm not sure about the discounts on the 5 Series at the moment, but this has to be worth a try.... I personally went about it a slightly different way.
I got a Drive The Deal quote on an Audi A6, then took that to an Audi dealer and they matched it (I was looking at either an A6 or 5 series to be fair, and DTD were doing the best discounts). I then took the Audi Dealer quote to my local BMW dealer and told them to sell me the BMW. So in order to do this, they had to spec the 5 as close to the spec of the Audi as they could, and get the numbers as close as they could. This was on the 2.0D's mind you, and they did very well. Then when I changed engine to the 3.0D and got extra contribution and spec for free, it came out at around 20% discount on list. Basically, I pushed them as far as I could on the standard car, then after that, pushed them on the spec also. At the very end, I added £1600 of spec for less than £1k. They had worked so hard to sell me a reasonably well speced 5 that by that time I think they had given up just to get the sale, lol. |

I went about it a slightly different way in that a dealer will always prefer to sell you a car he has sitting in the showroom. So I popped down to my dealer of choice - Cotswold in Gloucester who have sold me 2 bikes and my current 530d Touring - after phoning and finding that they had a 535d MSport Touring in the showroom with virtually the spec I'd want anyway. With the BMW contribution of £4,500 and a further >10% from them plus a decent price on the 530 I had a deal which was acceptable.

Welshman - you've sort of said it, but the main thing in all of this is getting the deal for 'you' regardless of what % are being bandied around.
If the price offered is agreeable to you the individual, then comparing it to what others have got is irrelevant. |
