19s and meaty tires, or 20s
Anyone have advice or opinions on what to do for new wheels and tires? The stock 19s on my car look miniature and the offset is obviously not great. But, I'm having trouble deciding between 19s and 20s for a new set.
With the 19s, I'd be able to fit a lot more tire on there - and I hate stretched tires that are too small for the wheel. I'm thinking something like this: If I went with 20s, I'd run a little less sidewall and maybe a little narrower, but still squared off. But, 20s will be more expensive. HOWEVER, will the 19s and a nice meaty tire be enough to fill the wheel well when dropped about an inch, or must I go with 20s for a decent look? Here's a great example of an F10 with 19s, but small tires than I'd run, but I won't be lowered that much: Thoughts? Advice? Thanks! |

You already said your stock 19's look minature so I wouldn't recommend you getting 19" replacements.
20" is the way to go and in regards to tires you can do 295/30/20 and 255/35/20 which will give you plenty of sidewall meat. |

Definitely go for the 20" rims, mine are 20x9.5 front, and 20x10.5 rear.

Actively searching for more examples of 19 (seen tons of F10s with 20s and obviously they look great) to judge. |

Something about the T1S tire in 285. They just sit so wide compared to other makes.

Haha, touche.
But, I've found that getting a car I need and dropping $5k on wheels/tires isn't the same when it comes to justifying costs. Although....they are pretty wheels. |

Staggered Question?
Can someone please post a scientific or a definitive technical answer and not an opinionated answer to this question. This has came across my mind for sometime and is seeking a good answer. And maybe others are too.
- What is the problem with staggering wheels on a BMW of different sizes like they do on 'Vettes. 'Vettes runs staggered sizes; e.g. 18x8.5 front and 19x10 rear. This gives the car a more aggressive look with smaller/narrower tire front than back. Why not? what problems would it cause on a BMW? I'm just sayin'. |

On a RWD one, no problem really, other than perhaps something with the speedo. But, when staggered like on the Vette's you mentioned, the sidewalls compliment each other (larger up front, shorter in the back).
But, I've seen an f10 with some rake and it really didn't look that good; I would prefer it to be level. |

If you go 20s, a fairly meaty rear is the 285-30-20 on a 20x10 or 20x9.5 wheel. In my opinion, 295s are too much tire. For the front if you go 20x8.5, do a 265-35-20, will work perfectly and give you a better look than the 245s or 255s. I have 255s and just wish I had gone 265 in front so it wrapped over the side of the wheel more.
