F10 550d Coming With Tri-Turbo Diesel
Absolute POWER! Performance through Greater Efficiency
Absolute POWER! Performance through Greater Efficiency... BMW's first foray into mid-size Coupe-Sedan territory means business as it lays it's armoury at the competition. Tri-Turbo Diesel Following on from an LCi of the BMW X6 in March 2012 @ Geneva. The new BMW 6er Gran Coupe will receive the all new and much discussed Tri-Turbo diesel which will be found in the BMW X6xDrive50d with 354PS. With the Gran Coupe debuting immediately after in 2012 - Two years on from it's concept the engine will be offered in the BMW 6-series Gran Coupe 50d and 50d M-Sport. Both with optional xDrive. And also the BMW 750d. It will then throughout 2012 emerge in the 6-series Coupe, 5-series Sedan/Touring/Gran Turismo and of course the X5. M6 Gran Coupe To extend the M6 Gran Coupe further from the M5 which was always BMW's High performance four door. The new BMW M6 Gran Coupe will spearhead more power taking the power of the engine to 580BHP through the 7 Speed M-DCT. Originally intended but dialed back for the M5 due to the conception of the Gran Coupe , Gran Coupe will be the flagship M model. BMW M6 Gran Coupe will also bring some performance related technology such as Carbon Ceramic brake discs and exclusive wheel options. M6 Gran Coupe will also identify a unique approach to performance inspired luxury in conjunction with the BMW Individual department. Including exclusive Carbon Trim, and Uniquely trimmed individual sports seats with two tone trim. To enhance the new 4dr Coupe's sporting 4 passenger interior that continues the overall sportiness of the 6er interior but extends the design further onto the rear doors and through the rear passenger compartment.

Wow, I will happily trade in my 535d F10 for a 550d, but I honestly don't see the point of that car. Unless it will be an 'M5 diesel' of course.
I mean, a 535d is already quite rare on the streets of europe. Why would anyone want to pay an additional 6-8 kEUR?

^^^^LOL, but it still is a diesel even if it has 500BHP, where is the point and advantage in mpg whilst paying more and more for the car in the first place? Get the petrol counterpart and you'll be fine.
580HP for the oncoming M6 ,that's more like it. |

If I had to upgrade from the 535d, only a BIG petrol engine would make sense (550i or M5).

Word - having driven the 535i I would never even consider trading my car in for 535iA.
I also know for a fact that the 535d is faster (although not by much), already tested it with a buddy of mine who just got a 535iA. Last week I also beat a 335i convertible in a straight line race with performance exhaust. A 550i depreciates too quickly because most people will either buy an M5 or 535i. The ''in between'' 550i is very rare and not popular at all. |

Also, the price difference between the 535i and 550i is not 6-8, but some rather insane 20kEUR!

Well er, just maybe because that's what some people want to do. It's otherwise known as freedom of choice

I see your point about diesel mpg economy becoming irrelevant for the most expensive cars.
Maybe the price diff. between 550i and 550d will not be as big as 6-8 kEUR. Then the choice will come down to personal preference (petrol vs diesel). And I totally agree with you re. 535d being overkill for daily commuting. My feeling is that my 520d already is overkill 95% of the time. Don't read me wrong, I would love to drive a 535d if I could afford it. But thinking about it, I'm not sure I would be able to enjoy the extra power so often. |

Overkill is maybe a Macca F1 or F40 in the rain, but it depends on your rightfoot. Otherwise, u get used to power very quickly I can assure you that, coming from a E90 M3.
Although in midrange the 535d is king, thru gears from 0-200kmh the 535iA is almost one second faster in comparison tests. A thing you won't feel at first, because the enormous torque of the.35d misleads you a bit. Seriously. Anyway, 550d, not for me. 550i it is. 100%. But come to think of it , my 535i already is a boat so the bigger diesels are even (front)heavier. No, I'll wait for the oncoming F30 335i manual or DKG |

I am very into the choice side because if you take Ireland & it's VRT, some non sense crap tax on top of the VAT, my 520d m sport cost was: 40k + 8500 euro vat + 8400 vrt a total of 59000 euro for 520d, some 17k tax, , this is with the lowest vrt possible for a BMW, a 530 will cost a fortune, road tax for the 520 is 150Euro but for any straight six you looking into over 600 euro a year.
so thank god for the 520d when down to Ireland and the stupid vrt tax. Last edited by martin mustang; 07-13-2011 at 04:54 PM.. |
