Trading in a US imported car
I'm in Toronto, currently have a 2005 545i I purchased in Los Angeles when I was living there in 2008 (I'm the second owner).
I imported it when I moved to Toronto without any issues or modifications, it's now Ontario registered and has been for almost a year. I'm looking at getting a 535xi this fall - wondering if there will be issues with trading it in or if I'll have to sell it privately. It has 102K kms, and the book value is apparently just over $20K, if I could get $16-17K on trade in I'd be quite pleased. Appreciate any input. Tom

When I was at the dealer picking up my car, there were people there trading in their US purchased vehicle as they used to live there. I asked about this and they said no problem on this. The only thing is that they only give the value of the trade in based on US prices which are lower. Hence, just make sure you base your expectations on US values (not Canadian) which may be lower.
This is what my dealer in BC told me. I would think that ON dealers should be the same? Quote:
